PERFORMANCE, MIXED MEDIA INSTALLATION

ATLAS PORTRAYS THE MALAISE OF A MODERN-DAY SPECTATOR AND HIS FETISHISTIC RELATIONSHIP TO MASS MEDIA. ⁣

LIKE ATLAS WHO WAS PUNISHED TO SHOULDER THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD, A MODERN SPECTATOR IS TIED DOWN BY THEIR OWN MIND MAP, AN IMAGINATION INFORMED BY THE SUPERABUNDANT MEDIA CULTURE. ⁣THIS HIGHLY PROCESSED, EASILY DIGESTIBLE INFORMATION, MEDIATED BY TECHNOLOGY, GIVES US THE MEANS TO FREELY PROJECT OUR OWN IDENTITY ONTO A SLEW OF INDEXES AND ICONS. ⁣WE GROW DISTANT FROM OUR OWN REALITY. EVERY TIME SOMETHING PHYSICAL STRIKES UPON OUR CORPOREAL SELF, THE PANG MAKES US RETRIEVE BACK TO OUR CEREBRAL ESCAPISM EVEN FASTER, DEEPENING THE RIFT BETWEEN THE MIND AND THE BODY.

THE INSTALLATION TAKES FORM AS A THREE-ACT LIVE DEMONSTRATION, RESULTING WITH A DILAPIDATED WALL AND A TATTERED BODY. ⁣EACH IS REPRESENTED BY THE 12 GRIDDED WALL PIECE AND THE CUSTOM BODYSUIT.

1. STARTING WITH A WHITE WALL, SCRIBBLE DOWN THE NAMES OCCUPYING YOUR CURRENT IMAGINATION.

⁣2. USE THE TOOLS - ELECTRONIC CABLES, ROPES AND CHAINS - TO CONNECT ONE NAME TO ANOTHER THROUGH YOUR BACK, WEAVING ONESELF INTO THE SYSTEM.⁣

3. TURN YOUR BACK ON THE WALL AND GIVE ONE'S BEST ATTEMPT TO WALK AWAY FROM IT.
